Catherine Ford was raised in Bloomsbury by her mother and grandmother. When she was a young girl Ford was diagnosed with an obsessive-compulsive disorder and suffered anxiety linked to the word association. Ford's interest in acting began when she was young. She joined in the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. However, after a short period of days, she concluded that this school wasn't for her. Ford applied again to Central School of Speech and Drama and, after the fourth time she applied she was accepted. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford didn't finish her studies until 1993. But, by 1991, Ford had made her first appearance on TV in a show called Surgical Spirit. At that moment, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate made appearances on television during the Nineties with shows such as The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Tate was also a regular performer in theatre and eventually joined the Royal Shakespeare Company during its season of 2000-2001. Tate became famous for her stand-up comedy, that were added to Tate's selection in the year 1996.
